Southwest Ranches Real Estate & Information

A City in Broward County, Florida

Formed in the year 2000, in response to an effort by another city to annex their area, Southwest Ranches is arguably the most residential and agricultural city in Broward County, Florida. Home to about 7,500 residents, Southwest Ranches carries a heavy focus on equestrian pursuits, evidenced by the local Southwest Ranches Equestrian Club and Sunshine Ranches Equestrian Park. However, you don’t have to love horses to love this city and its rural approach to life.

Shopping and Dining

While surrounded by cities rich with retailers and restaurants Southwest Ranches itself is not particularly a shopping or dining hot spot. Still, there’s no reason to leave hungry or empty handed. Shopping within the city itself is generally limited to basic needs (Publix Grocery) and home improvement (Lowes). However, an array of shopping options exist in neighboring communities such as Pembroke Pines, Davie, etc. Eating out in Southwest Ranches, you’ll mostly find well-known names such as T.G.I. Fridays, Original Pancake House and Cold Stone Creamery. Want to sample a local spot? Check out Romeus Cuban Restaurant on Dykes Road for traditional Cuban cuisine.

Parks and Recreation

When it comes to facilities and programs for the active lifestyle, Southwest Ranches leaves nothing to be desired, especially for horse lovers. The City’s Sunshine Ranches Equestrian Park (SREP) stretches over more than 20 acres of the town and includes one 10,400 square foot schooling ring, a 37,500 square foot show ring and the Equestrian Oasis, an artful installation with the practical application of providing drinking water to horses. For the less riding-inclined, SREP has picnic and pavilion areas as well as a ranch-themed playground. More parks are already in the planning phases for Southwest Ranches. The city has acquired land and grants to create at least four more parks within its boundaries.

Living

For seekers of the simple and rural life, Southwest Ranches is a very hard destination to beat. This municipality works tirelessly to limit unnecessary development right down to minimizing the number of sidewalks, street lights and paved/construction within its borders. That is not to say that life in Southwest Ranches has to be quiet. Members of the Southwest Ranches Equestrian Club live their lives to the sound of whinnying horses, thundering hoof beats and, when they’re in top form, the applause of horse show spectators.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Though Southwest Ranches children attend a number of public schools in surrounding cities, the town is home to two parochial schools St. Mark Catholic School and Archbishop McCarthy High School. Together, these schools offer a Catholic education from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Similar to the arrangement with the public schools, Cleveland Clinic Hospital, the closest hospital to Southwest Ranches, is conveniently located less than three and half miles away in neighboring Weston, Florida. Again, residents don’t choose Southwest Ranches for its support services, but for the enjoyment of a more rural focus in their lives. That said, while the largely untouched countryside of Southwest Ranches provides a buffer from the busier life, every convenience and requirement can be found within a short drive making life in Southwest Ranches the best of both worlds.
